I did some Christmas shopping at a toy store near Pioneer Square called Finnegan’s Toys and Gifts. There I found stuff animals “[m]ade from 100% recycled plastic bottles”, or so it says on the tag. Though, I would not highly doubt this fact since the material does indeed feel stiff, kind of like a plastic wig. Nonetheless, the bear I got is still soft, but not fuzzy (oh, how my wallet feels lighter…) As I continue to read the tag it also says, “Our average recycled toy keeps over 10 bottles out of landfills.” I am supporting sustainability by buying presents. Who knew?

That is flippin cute. I work at TJ Maxx and they even sell these little dolls made out of recycled paper. I just wish there wasn’t so many products made to attract sustainability lovers rather than things with the actual purpose of being downright sustainable. Sustainable is good no matter what, it’s just a kind of evil thing to do to capitalize off of this kind of stuff.
I would have to agree. Though it’s a good thing they are reusing the bottles I think they could have been used to make something more productive. Well, baby-steps, baby-steps.
That’s so cool! I’ve noticed more and more that random things (clothes, shoes, now… toys) are being made out of recycled products. It’s amazing what we can find to reuse. Boo landfills. Yay teddy bears.
That is really awesome! I love stuffed animals and to think that for every animal I already possess, I could have bought one from that store and saved some bottles!
I would have to feel them first to make sure they were soft though!!
But seriously, that is awesome how we (as a society) are incorporating all these things into our normal lives and into things such as children’s stuff animals etc! Awesome!
This is a very creative way of making useless stuff into useful stuff. My comment is so random. I don’t know how they would be able to make a teddy bear out of recycled bottles? Is it just the stuffing part or the whole thing?
As I was looking at the material I can see that it is made out of plastic, so I assume that the entire bear is made out of reused water bottles.
I’m also going to assume they have melted the bottles and stretched it while it was still hot. Kind of like how stretchy and sticky gum is when you step on it during a hot day.
