In June I graduated from Gladstone High School and I was a member of “Green School Club”. It sounds pretty cheesy, but GHS was a certified Oregon Green School. We had a group of about fifty students who helped to make our school more sustainable. Throughout my senior year we made many changes to our school. We switched to recycled napkins, paper plates and toilet paper. Instead of throwing away empty chip bags and candy wrappers we started recycling “film”. A few times in the year we also preformed trash audits which were gross, but also very informative. Besides making improvements to our high school we also worked with the local elementary schools and community institutions. I think all high schools should go green and make these simple changes to become more sustainable!
